Every retired person should know how to create a will.

The fact is, regardless of age, everyone should know how to create a will. When you reach retirement age, it becomes mandatory. What will happen to your financial assets and personal possessions? Upon your death, and we all must go sometime, everything you own or possess will be transferred to someone else. Creating a will as a first step in a complete transfer plan will make sure it goes to someone of your choosing and not the government.

For many years, we put off the idea of creating a will. Finally, as we neared retirement age, we realized how foolish we had been. When we wrote our book, The Best of Our Lives: Sharing the Secrets of a Healthy and Happy Retired Life, we made sure to emphasize the idea that every retired person should know how to create a will.

In Chapter 7, The Responsible Retiree, we explain both the value and limitations of a will. We also discuss many other important responsibilities of a retiree such as understanding the different types of trusts and insurance policies. In addition to the information and suggestions in this section, we also explain to readers our own personal decisions in these areas. Our goal is to both inform the reader and also let them benefit from our experiences.

While it’s important that every retiree know how to create a will, it’s even more important they create a complete financial and possession transfer plan. This book will help them achieve their goals.
