Careers after retirement

A growing number of retirees are now seeking careers after retirement age.

You may have heard the expression, “Fifty is the new thirty.” With healthier life styles and advances in medicine, it may well be true for many people. Several studies on aging report that growing numbers of seniors are now becoming entrepreneurs or seeking completely new careers after retirement age.

Why not? It’s your life, and if you feel good and want to pursue a new career, we say go for it. In our book, The Best of Our Lives: Sharing the Secrets of a Healthy and Happy Retired Life, we devote an entire section to second careers. In Chapter 10, “What Now?” we provide expert advice on getting started in a second career, give suggestions for matching your talent to a second career, and list the pros and cons of becoming an entrepreneur. In addition, we relate the stories of numerous retirees we have interviewed and describe what they are doing in their careers after retirement age.

We encourage everyone fortunate enough to reach retirement age to spend their life doing exactly what they want to do. If a second career is your decision, we wish you well. The information in this book will be very useful and beneficial. When we retired, some friends and family thought we might just put our feet up and coast through the rest of our life.
